How the Match Works

How is the Match Calculated?

The percentage match is based on how much the nonprofits raise in the challenge that is eligible for the match, and how much the Community Foundation raises for the Match Fund.  Hypothetically, if each of the 45 nonprofits raises the maximum amount that can be matched ($20,000), then $900,000 would be eligible to be matched. If the Match Fund has $350,000 in it, the match would be calculated at .39 cents on the dollar. Roughly each of the nonprofits would receive a $7,800 grant in addition to what they raise in the challenge. The percentage of the Match will not be known until the campaign is over and the Match is calculated. This percentage will be announced on October 12 at our Great Fish Community Challenge Ceremony, which is open to the public.

Where does the Match come from?

Whitefish Community Foundation starts the Match with $200,000. Contributions to the Circle of Giving, Friends of the Great Fish Challenge, proceeds from other Community Foundation programs, and donations from individuals to the Match Fund help the Match grow.

How can you help?

Join the Friends of the Great Fish Challenge Match Fund by making your gift to the Match, or join the Circle of Giving. We would like to encourage our donors to continue learning about what our local nonprofits are trying to accomplish, and buttressing our community through gifts to several of our participating nonprofits and to our Match Fund. You can learn more about our participating nonprofits and their use of funds HERE. Need more information on the many ways you can make a gift? Click here

Your gift of any amount will help the Whitefish Community Foundation match each gift that is made through the Great Fish Community Challenge. To donate you can download and fill out the 2017 Official Donation Form and send a check to PO Box 1060, Whitefish, MT 59937, DONATE ONLINE, or contact Linda Engh-Grady to make a gift of appreciated securities or contribute from your IRA.

The 2017 MATCH Fund starts at $200,000. As more donors give the Match Fund will grow. The final match percentage will be annouced at the Great Fish Grant Awards presentation October 12th.
